I keep getting UTIs, could this be an ongoing kidney problem ?

Usually Urinary tract infections are of the lower tract (namely bladder and urethra) and do not effect the upper tracts (ureters and kidneys). In the vast majority of women (??Hockeymum) these infections are a really troublesome and have quite an impact on quality of life but do not effect the kidneys. If you are unlucky enough to develop a kidney infection after a urinary tract infection you develop horrible pain in the kidney area and are often very ill with high temperatures - you must then seek medical help. However even then the response is often rapid without any significant risk to kidney health.

Thank you for your answers. I did get a kidney infection one time after a UTI, and ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics, so am aware how bad it can get.
