L.P.H.S - fact or fiction?

I have suffered with kidney disease since birth and, after an unexpected stay in hospital after a UTI/kidney infection I was referred to a specialist in Oxford. After a consultation he diagnosed me with suffering with Loin Pain Hematuria Syndrome (L.P.H.S).

Since this diagnosis 15yrs ago I have been told conflicting information by consultants,Drs and GP's with the general consensus being that it's something you are told you have when tests are inconclusive.

With it not being a well known disorder I tend to find that I have to explain it to most people. Can you please tell me if L.P.H.S is a diagnosis given when the Drs have no clue as to what is causing the symptoms?

Really good question and you are correct that there is come controversy about this disorder. Certainly it is diagnosed less commonly than it used to be as our imaging and investigations are more detailed and able to pick up other diagnoses that used to be called loin pain haematuria syndrome.
You also have a point that it is a diagnosis that the patient feels is of little value as we cannot treat it and are not sure why it happens -all we do know is that if you have been throughly investigated it does not lead to any further health risks for the individual. Sorry not to be more helpful :)
