Itch feels like it is inside.

Postby Bliss Thompson on Fri May 19, 2017 5:33 pm

I was in an accident about ten years ago which resulted in an emergency surgery that has left me with a scar from hip to hip. The wound became very infected in several areas and took longer than usual to heal.

I cannot feel full sensation in that section of my abdomen - however, even after ten years the centre six or seven inches of the scar feels like it is very itchy on the inside and no matter how much I rub at it (scratching does no good at all, just damages the skin) I cannot get any prolonged relief. Sometimes a moisturiser will afford me a dampening effect for brief periods - but I am at my wits end and do not know what to do.

Any advice or inspiration that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. This already ruined my career as a swimsuit model - but it is also impacting on the comfort of my life.

There are a lot of things we can do to help scar itch and the options are many. I understand that massage and moisturisation ha shad little effect, so it would be worth trying one of the following:
a) Laser
b) Medicines like antihistamines or low dose anti epileptic drugs like gabapentin/pregabalin
c) Steroid injections/tapes
d) Silicone tape/gel
Referral to a scar specialist might help you to decide what option might be best for your scar.
