itchy old keyhole surgery scar right next to my belly button

Postby Catjemi1 on Fri May 19, 2017 9:31 pm

Hi

I had keyhole surgery - four holes to have my gallbladder removed in September 2014. 3 of them have healed brilliantly. The one right next to my belly button is still quite raised and long than the others. It isn't pink but bright white.

Because of where it is it can rub and get very dry on the skin and can be quite irritating and itchy especially if I'm wearing anything with a belt. I'm slim so its not because my clothes are tight or rubbing and I wondered if there is anything that cools and soothes .

Also will it always look like this now?

I have a diagnosed nickel allergy so don't wear any belts that irritate from that perspective either. It feels like it'll always be this way after such a long time since my operation.

Thanks

It is possible your scar is hypertrophic and possibly unstable.
Rubbing at the site is a constant reason for it to be irritated and cause symptoms.

There are a number of options including:
a) Moisturise with cold cream/ointment/oil
b) Massage with firm circular movements 3-4 times a day
c) Consider an over the counter anti itch tablet
d) Consider laser, steroid injections/tapes, silicone gel/tapes
