recent high cost of ointments

Postby iruntall on Sun Jun 10, 2018 12:01 am

Have had eczema for at least the last 15 yrs and tried all kinds of things but finally figured out that just a couple days of using clobetasol propionate .05% ointment on the spot works wonders. Problem is that I just got a prescription from the doctor and when I brought it to the pharmacy the price has gone up about five times! A gram of it is about $4.20 now here in the US. Has anyone else seen this and do you know why it's jumped so much? Affordable superpotent topical steroid options to look into?

The pharmacist recommended Triamcinolaone and although cheap it's not anywhere near as strong and I've found that using less of the stronger stuff for fewer days seems to work better.

The problem is that there's a disconnect between the doctors and the prices. The docs just prescribe things assuming insurance covers it and don't seem to care about price. In fact the system is set up that the more everyone makes the more the doctors make and the sufferer pays and loses. I'm self-pay so it's of course important to me.

Ideas?

Hi!
clobetasol propionate .05% ointment is the highest potency steroid cream, do use under direction... not for long-term use, take care!
