North-East England has seen a rise in alcoholic liver disease among those in their early 30s. Hospital admissions for this have risen by 400% in the last 8 years. This compares to the national rise of 61%.

There is a debate between experts over what should be done regarding this. The drinks industry body, Portman Group feel there is nothing to worry about as the vast majority drink sensibly. Others on the other hand believe that the cost of drinks and the way they are advertised has created a drinking culture.

The Department of Health stated that liver disease is a silent killer that puts thousands of lives at risk.

However it has been argued that the UK has some of the strictest rules regarding underage drinking so how can this growing trend be prevented?

What do you think?
