We need some X-rays and an MRI of your knee and some X-rays of your toe..a really important condtiion to rule out is gout which is very common and often occurs in healthy young people..

What a shame that your poor mother had a good result and now has gone backwards.. The first thing to do is to get an opinion from a knee arthroplasty (joint replacement) specialist someone who concentrates on one replacement surgery as oppose to key hole..They should do a minimum of 100 total knees ...

There are lots of good exercises that you can do but the key is to find a good physiotherapist who is also a strength and conditioning coach and do some targeted exercises and get a programme. You only need a few initial sessions and then a follow up every 6 weeks or so..its worth the investment of ...
