Re: Eczema and Pregnancy
Pretty much everything I've seen says that a child's chances of developing atopy increase if a parent has it. If both parents have it, chances are even higher. I don't recall ever seeing an estimate as high as 80 percent in either case, though.

Re: Palm of Hands
Me too! I read one set of diagnostic guidelines where hyperlineation is one of the "minor features" of eczema. I have another question - do other people flush easily? I get a bright red face within minutes of beginning exercise that lasts for a loooong time. This was another feature on the...

Re: Atarax (hydroxyzine)
I use Atarax - half of a 25 mg pill most nights. It helps, but I think that may be due to the fact that it helps me relax (and therefore sleep) more than anything else. I don't notice much of a decrease in my eczema from the medicine itself, but I do slightly less damage at night and I think my body...

Re: How harmful are steroid creams?
I would absolutely echo what others have said about prioritizing quality of life above the rest. My parents did this for me when I was young, and I am very grateful. I do this now for myself (though I do go through periods where I think I can go without steroids at times, but I really haven't found ...

Re: Hello and some advice please
Hi Jane, So sorry to hear about your daughter! Sometimes eczema just has a mind of it's own, but I had a couple ideas of possible triggers... It sounds like you're not totally new to eczema, so if any of them are redundant, please forgive. :) I'm not a doctor, but I know that it *is* possible to be ...

It's so good to hear you're getting relief! No, I wasn't trying to scare you - just curious! I might give these a try.

Re: On the verge of giving up completely.
Hi Brooke, I'm in a very similar spot - I just got the results of my patch test and learned a few things, but nothing especially useful. I was hoping for some "miracle cure," and that definitely didn't happen. So sorry to hear you're still struggling. It's so frustrating!!! I only have a f...

Re: Am i alone with this?
You're not alone! I have skin diagnoses (6 of them, actually), and while the list does not include spongiosis, but I relate to what you're saying on a number of levels. My life centers around my skin in terms of the time I spend taking care of it and the space it occupies in my thoughts. It's such a...
