Re: TOT and TVT

You are correct this is currently on hold pending the outcome of an independent review chaired by Baroness Cumberlege. This is likely to be the case at least until the end of the year. The latest publication is linked below (BMJ article from last week)

Re: endometriosis in the bladder

Yes - I see a handful of cases per year. Sometimes responds to hormonal treatment, other cases need surgery. There are UK endometriosis centres that would deal with this

Re: Issues with catheter use

The recently published ANTIC trial has shown that a daily preventative antibiotic can reduce UTIs by 50% in ISC patients - worth considering? See link below

Re: Catheters

There are a host of ISC catheters available - perhaps trial a few different types that may be more comfortable for you. Also important to make sure you are not getting catheter associated infections.

Re: suprapubic catheter

In this situation I often try and insert a larger than usual SPC - say 18 or even 20 French. The other issue is who is changing the SPC - it maybe better to have the changes in hospital if you are not already.

Re: 12 year old with Down’s syndrome and bladder issues

From the info you give my first simple test would be a post void bladder scan to see if t...

Re: Kidney or Bladder

It sounds like your bladder is overactive - during periods where your conscious level drops - eg overnight/afternoon sleep this is resulting in urinary leakage - there are medications that may be able to help with that. I'm not sure what level of investigation you have had and whether you have under...

Re: Nightly frequency

I would advise completing a bladder diary in order to investigate whether you are making too much urine at night. This is a condition called nocturnal polyuria and the treatment is different to that given for overactive bladder syndrome - this is the first step in trying to find out what the problem...

Re: Non-acceptance of Incontinence diagnosis

I think its a difficult issue - persuading patients to seek help for urinary incontinence is a bit of a taboo subject. It may be better to see if this individual would be willing to talk to a health care professional as we could offer alternatives to pads/containment and even prevent the incontinenc...
