Full Hysterectomy
Do women that have a full hysterectomy need cervical screening still?
Re: Full Hysterectomy
I was wondering the same. I presume as I don't have a cervix I don't need one! One GP a few years ago still did a scrape from high in the vagina as a precaution though but I've never had it done since, or been told I should.

Re: Full Hysterectomy
If your womb and cervix have been removed to prevent or treat cancer or had had abnormal smear results before the hysterectomy, you may be asked to have a vaginal smear (vault smear) for a short time after.Whereas If your womb and cervix have been removed for other benign condition, such as fibroids or heavy bleeding, you do not need to go for smear tests provided that your most recent smear tests had been normal and you were on normal recall intervals for your age.
Women who have had a hysterectomy but still have their cervix, they are still risk of developing abnormal cells and should still go for regular cervical screenings as recommended for their age.
