Can I just ask what you mean in your introduction by "various treatments available"???

When discussing alternatives to levothyroxine I have been told that there is only one treatment for hypothyroidism available and that is levothyroxine.

Please tell me which other thyroid medication you are referring to?

Levothyroxine is the principal treatment for hypothyroidism. Occasionally liothyronine is used alone (for instance in patients with thyroid cancer in preparation for radioactive iodine treatment). Combinations of levothyroxine and liothyronine are occasionally prescribed by some doctors (though the value of this is questionable). Other formulations are also available but not recommended by professional organisations.
