High blood sugars tablets not helping

9 weeks ago I started having pains in my left side, I have had ultra sound, x-ray & bloods. Not much has shown except infection in bloods, now over the last 5 weeks my blood sugars have gone so out of control. I am on tabets for my diabetes and normally controlled, but at the moment they are between 17-27. The dr's have up meds but its not helping, due to the pain i am not as active as i am normally which i no won't help. I'm so worried now as we as a family have changed how we eat ect. I am on alot of other medication to as well morphine patches. I would welcome any advice.
Thank you Ann-marie

Re: High blood sugars tablets not helping

Hi Anne- Marie

If you have pain on the left side this may indicate a urine infection if the pain affects your abdomen. If the pain is on the left side of your chest then this may indicate a chest infection.

If your tests indicate persistent infection you really ought to have a course of antibiotics as this will help control the raised blood sugars.

I'm not too sure what treatment you're on but if your on the maximal doses and still having raised capillary readings then it's sounds as if you need insulin. I would recommend you be referred to your local diabetes specialist.

best of luck
