Hydroxizine

Does anyone give their child hydroxizine to help sleeping? We have not had much success with it but are having another bash as we need to break the habits of regular waking, scratching and screaming. DD is nearly 4.

If you do use it could you please tell me if you use it regularly? (i.e. daily and if so for how long at a time?)
Does it seem to work for your child?
Do you give more if they wake at night? (we have been advised to do this)
How long before bedtime do you give it?

I'm just interested as I'm questionning the benefits of carrying on with it for my DD.

Many thanks

Re: Hydroxizine

We tried this for my son but it really did not seem to make any difference. The only antihistamine that does help him is Alimemazine and even that does ot work well if used every night. We use it a couple of times a week to help our son catch up on sleep as this seems to work best for him.

Re: Hydroxizine

We use this for our daisy (6 years). We find it helps a bit but find the the effectiveness diminishes pretty rapidly. We were told to double her dosage last Tuesday as her original dosage wasn't working. She slept through for three nights and then went back to waking up scratching again.

We used that for awhile with my son, and we had NO such luck. They said it'll make him drowsy...in fact it was the opposite (nice). Good luck!

Re: Hydroxizine

Hi my 5year old daughter has it. It certaily does not have any effect on going to sleep but I feel she is in a better level of sleep and wakes less, certaily does less damage in her sleep. We use it when skin is bad and I do not use at all if she has had high sugar foods, sweets or pop as I feel it will just be lost in the sugar high. I am asking for something for my son next week so will see what the hospital offers him.

Hi
We tried this for my daughter but it didn't make any difference more an adverse reaction might as well given her Redbull.

Re: Hydroxizine

Hi, I am new to the site. I am using this for my 19 month baby boy, and have been for several months. I am also finding that it doesn't have any effect to help him rest or sleep. It has taken the hives away when he breaks out. Hives with chronic eczema just makes things seem 10 times worse. I tried to explain to the allergist the latest occurances and he doesn`t listen at all.

Hi, that doesn't sound good that your specialist does not listen to you. Is it possible to be seen by someone else?
