Compliance in creaming

My DD, now 4, is being less compliant at the moment with being 'creamed' and bandaged. Do any others have any experience of this or any advice? Have you found this goes in cycles? I'm hoping it is just a phase but it is hard work and I know she is not getting as much emollient as she should be during the day.

Re: Compliance in creaming

My coming to 3 year old is resisting being moisturized, as her grandpa told her it's bad for her; I just have to get it done quickly, and use a cream if I think she wouldn't want to be moisturized as often.

Re: Compliance in creaming

it is really tough getting kids to comply, my 7 and 5 year olds resists often. do the best you can. when mine resist i explain what will happen, then over the next few days i point out why they are suffering. not to pass the blame but so they realise the good/bad of having creams or not. we can only do our best, it is hrad when our best becomes a battle

Hi Nurse Sheila,

I didn't know there's spray moisturizer! Which brand dear? That's a first I've heard!

Cheers,
Mei
p.s. if you've any idea on small group sharing session or how a nurse usually helps to facilitate, esp. activities for kids, can you please contact me? I'm finding finding finding ideas for my next month's support group meeting!

Re: Compliance in creaming

Hi

It is called Emollin, it is brilliant, suits my daughter great we use it all the time but my son is only allowed it a couple of times a week. The can is just like your spray painting them, there is no need to rub in so on painful skin it is great not having to rub it in. My kids love it and will beg for it. They laugh and are desperate to be allowed to spray themselves. I just wish it was more suited to my sons skin needs, but at least he is used to the idea now that it is for special times only or emergency use if one of us is ill.

Deffinately worth giving it a try, though one GP did question the price to me!!!

Re: Compliance in creaming

My son is 4 & with the cold weather his skin is now really bad, I let him try to moisturise himself making it fun but obviously keeping an eye on him at all times. In this weather I have to moisturise ALOT. His skin this week has been really really bad. I have just joined this forum after some advise from a friend & finding it really helpfull.

Hi CJCamp,

Good to know that you've made it fun for your child to moisturize! I'm thinking of all sorts of tricks too, but sometimes, just get it over and down with asap LOL mom's patience sometimes run out too! But usually, I'm nice about it and dangle 'carrots' for the next activity after moisturizing.

Take care,
Mei
