Warning- Eczema and Disposable Nappies
Hi
I'd just like to share the story of my son and his discoid eczema, which he acquired from being a few months old. He suffered daily from itching, weeping and bleeding eczema. I tried every treatment ....from having to chase him around the house, numerous times a day to apply emollients (which he hated!) to being prescribed very strong steroids which worked but the minute I stopped using them the eczema reappeared. I tried them all..wet wraps, spraying him in bed with warm water whist he was asleep...to every make of cream, anyone recommended on forums. I stopped him from eating certain foods like strawberries etc.. but nothing worked. I took him to Consultants and Specialists and all said the same thing...that I (his mother) wasn't managing the eczema properly but I was doing everything they told me too.
The straw that broke the camels back, was when he'd just turned 4 years old, I was in an Airport lounge waiting for a flight, when my son went to play with a German families children. They were all playing happily, until the children's mother noticed my sons eczema, upon which she dragged her children away and told them not to play with him and pointed at his skin. I think she thought he had a contagious disease...I laughed it off with my husband but deep down it really quite hurt!
After 4 years I'd resided myself to the fact, my son would always have eczema but then I decided to wean him out of disposable nappies, which he'd been wearing at night time (he'd worn cotton underpants during the day for the last 2 years). I couldn't believe it....after suffering huge discs of eczema all over his body (but never under his nappy for some strange reason )within 48 hours my sons eczema had completely disappeared and it has never reappeared and I use no creams on him whatsoever.
Please if you have a child that's suffering from eczema and he/ she wears disposable nappies, try weaning him/her out of them...you may find it makes a massive difference to their eczema.
I wish someone had mentioned my son may be allergic to disposable nappies and it could manifest itself as eczema but they didn't.. not even the many Consultants/specialists we visited.
Thanks for reading my post xx

Re: Warning- Eczema and Disposable Nappies
I'm so happy that getting off nappies worked wonders for your son's eczema! Plus no need for nappies = save money
Mine still wearing but we'd put ointment near the bands, or nappy rash cream and that'd reduce rash around waist band.
Looking forward to weaning off diapers, but we're still some time off that, got to wait as just started getting used to potty!
Xoxo, brought a smile to my face that a parent is happy about eczema's improvement! cheers!
