immunosuppressants -mycophenolate mofetil

hello,

Does anyone have any experience taking the immunosuppressant treatment mycophenolate mofetil

I have been taking this drug for abound 5 years now, and have had positive results from it.

i previously had uncontrollable eczema covering most of my body, and had tried every remedy under the sun from conventional to alternative. mostly the only thing that worked was strong steroid cream, but my skin could no longer cope with so much use,

It wasn't until my early 30's i was given finally immunosuppressants. I initially took cyclosporin then azathioprine, which stopped working ager around 18 months,

I am happy to say since i have been on Mycophenolate, my skin is around 95% improved. I still get the odd flare up, and have to use steroid cream occasionally, but this drug seems to be working for me in the most part.

I would be keen to hear views from any one else with experience with this drug or thinking of taking it?

Good to know it worked for you, my daughter hadn't tried this, only been on prednisolone. I did a blog series on oral medication last year, and the side effects of Cellcept is
Constipation, stomach upset, gas, chills, fever, rash, swelling, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, hair loss, swollen gums, bleeding, bruising, paleness, difficulty breathing, excessive fatigue, yellowing of skin or eyes, muscle cramps, water retention and increased heartbeat.

Symptoms of flu such as sore throat, fever, night sweats, or painful urination, vision changes, reddened skin that cannot heal or sore may indicate infection that warrant seeing your doctor. Stomach or intestinal bleeding is also a side effect, and signs to look out for are stomach pain, blood in your stool, or dark, sticky stools.

Can you share if you had any of the side effect?

Mei,

Prednisolone, is a very powerful and dangerous drug (as are all oral corticosteroids). Once again, please approach with caution as many who have stopped this drug go through bad flares... Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks! Prednisolone can be potent, but pediatric specialists like my daughter's doc is experienced and knowledgeable to prescribe the right dosage for the right duration. After a one-time course at about 7 month old, my daughter's eczema improved markedly from full body reddish to localized, manageable eczema. And since the few follow-up sessions from the first time, her skin improved to the extent she doesn't need further consultation - just regular moisturizing So I'd say I'm happy it worked for her, and urge parents to be open minded about it and seek an experienced pediatric specialist.

In my experience of 30+ years of eczema, no medical practitioner can replace your own experiences with things. I have learned more than anything to research everything before putting it in or on my body.

Prednisolone is potent and will do more harm than topical steroids.
