History of prostate disease in my family
Prostate cancer runs in my family. Is there anything I can add to my diet, or supplements I can take, to make it less likely I will get this disease?
Thank you for the opportunity to ask the question.

Morning
If you have a strong family history of prostate cancer that is male relatives, Father, Uncle, Brother then your risk of getting prostate cancer is higher. In these circumstances I would recommend that you get your PSA checked around the age of 40-45. If it is abnormal then you should be referred to a Urologist. If it is normal keep it under review and have an annual check. If it is going up every year then discuss with your GP a refferal to a Urologist.
In terms of food there is some evidence around lycopenes (processed red tomoatoes), soy, Vit E, selenium, dark green vegtables, pomegrante juice and reduced saturated fat, all being good for prostate health. However there is no evidence that these will prevent prostate cancer. There is obviously something in the diet as prostate cancer is rare in the in oriental countries. However their incedence of throat and stomach cancer is much higher than ours.
My advice to all men is to have a balanced healthy diet, taking regular exercise. That is the best way to stay healthy.
