Creams- nearly tried everything!

Hi,

i have an 11 year old brother who has suffered from eczema all his life, recently it has now appeared only on his joints and all over his face and neck.
The funny thing is how the eczema starts on the face and finishes around his collar bone. Its like he is wearing a mask.
Anyway... it seems he is allergic to pollen and becomes very red and scratches during school. because he is so busy playing he doesnt cream him self therefore comes home with dry peeling skin. the past couple of days he has been unable to turn his head and keeps his stiff as he is fearful that the skin at the back of his neck may crack.

anybody know of a deep moisturising cream other than Diprobase, protopic, dermud, e45, doublebase please?

Hi Selina,

Sorry to hear about your brother. I remember being in his very shoes...

In terms of moisturisers it is really trial and error unfortunately, what works for some may not work for others (as im sure you keep being told).

Have you tried Cetraben? It is good, doesn’t contain SLS and keeps the moisture locked (for a while). Another one is Epaderm (does contain SLS, but alot of people swear by it), I personally use it as a soap substitute. One I am currently trying now is Aveeno Cream, it is fragrance free, no SLS, and it does keep the moisture locked in for good number of hours (certainly not 24hours as it boasts on the bottle!). Aveeno is expensive in comparison. All of the above creams are available on prescription.

It has been said before in this forum, by AnnaB I believe. When trying new creams, try on one leg first as a testing measure. And ONLY try one at a time so you can see results at a glance. Some people find results in as little as days for new moisturisers.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried Dermacura Intensive? Its a spray so its easy and quick to apply, no need for rubbing in.

Re: Creams- nearly tried everything!

Hi thank you.

Epaderm has been great however he still has his on and off days.
The dermatologist now says to use emovate on this face 2 times a day for a few days if his face becomes dry and red. which seems to clear it up. whether this is good for his skin in the long term is a diffreent story.

Dermatologist has explained that my brothers skin structure is like a broken wall. so bacteria enters quickly which makes the skin flare up and infected. to make it worse his immune system goes haywire with any type of bug entering the system. so it wont ever go away and he will have to live with it all his life which is quite upsetting when he was told this few weeks ago.
We have ntcied that his skin flares up when he is upset...usual stuff... cant have a game for his xbox, or he is told off by my parents. Stress i guess...

Ill try Cetraben also.

Hi, sorry for delay in replying. Dermacura is not available on prescription but it can be purchased on line at various web sites. I have previously bought it from the Capital Hair and Beauty website, www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk and there is more information available at www.dermacura.net

Hope this helps.
