finding a doctor who cares.

I've been struggling with pain for 2 yrs. Finally got a diagnosis about a month ago of fibromyalgia. However, I was told there is no specialists/anything that can help.

I am struggling with costochondritis, depression and now siatica however my gp just says I need to keep my motivation up and exercise and lose weight. I am currently the lightest I have been since my teens however can still barely walk.

I need to find someone who is willing to help me, believe me and not just pump me full of drugs that stop me being able to look after my young children. It feels like my only way out is a final way.

Where can I find a fibro specialist, surely there is one?

Thank you.

Re: finding a doctor who cares.

You've come through to the ME/CFS section of this forum - might be better posting this query in the FM section!

You ought to ask your GP if he/she can refer you to a rheumatologist who is interested in FM

Re: finding a doctor who cares.

I have the same problem. It took me 25 years to get a diagnosis (onset in '87) of CFS/ME in March 2012. The specialist (3 hours away) who diagnosed me gave me a couple of follow-up appointments and then I was sent back to my GP. To this day, almost 1 1/2 yrs. later, after seeing him several times, my GP has never acknowledged my illness. I am not getting any help or support from the medical community.

Years ago, I found a rheumatologist who advertised he'd take on CFS and Fibro patients. When I contacted him, he said unless I had both, which I don't, he wouldn't treat me. He more or less said he couldn't be bothered with people who are that sick who would be taking up too much of his time.

So where do we go from here? Trust me, there's no CFS specialists anywhere around here. Even the specialist I saw wasn't taking on new patients at the time and has now has moved to B.C. She closed her practice when she left as I heard there wasn't anyone else in this specialized field in the area.

Is there another type of doctor who PWC's can get help/support from?

Thanks in advance!

Re: finding a doctor who cares.

I will check out your link for information. Unfortunately, I doubt it would help me--I'm in Canada.

Thank you for the reply.
