Re: What to expect after prostate operations?
Hi John, there are lots of different treatments which may affect the urinary flow and the sexual function.
Prostate cancer feeds off testosterone - so part of the treatment involved reducing your testosterone by some method and this unfortunately can have an affect on your libido and sexual function. There are however medications that can help out if needed.
Big operations can affect the delicate nerves in the area and this can also affect bladder and erections.
Your surgeon should discuss these issues with you in detail, but in my experience as a GP, most people are fine and either adapt or have no problems.
Anything like this is scary, and none of us want complications or side effects, but then if the treatment will help the problem then we have to bear that in mind. Tricky one, I hope all goes well for you.
