Histamine Intolerance

Hi! Which antihistamine is safe to take for histamine intolerant people? I need an antihistamine for my skin allergies and to keep the acid down from the histamine intolerance. As far as I know there are only two that don't lower the daomine oxidase further - the cause of histamine intolerance: Fexofenadine hydrochloride but my GP believes I have had an allergic reaction to the pink colouring of the tablet and Benadryl, which I cannot get on prescription and the over-the-counter dose is insufficient.
Also, do you know of any specialists in the field of histamine intolerance who I could be referred to? I live in the Surrey area.

Dear goody2shooes, what are your symptoms? Is it only skin (urticaria/hives) or other organs are affected too? Most antihistamines have no influence on DAO activity; only one study suggested inhibition of DAO by cimetidine and dihydralazine and increased activity by diphenhydramine. H2 antihistamines such as ranitidine can help with your reflux/stomach ulcers but also some skin issues; cetirizine/loratadine/ fexofenadine/acrivastine improve mainly skin/upper respiratory tract symptoms. Adverse reactions to fexofenadine (and fexofenadine colouring) are vanishingly rare

Thank you doctor for your reply yes I do have other organs that are affected my eyes are always burning and stinging with puffy red and swollen eyelids my eyes feels dry and are always affected when coming into contact with perfume, chemicals and uv rays despite taking antihistamines and I would be constantly sniffing my nose would feel completely blocked up without them. I am guessing that maybe histamine intolerance makes me a more sensitive & allergic person?
