Problems when urinating

I am in my early 70s and have recently been experiencing a bit of hesitancy, nocturnal frequency and reduction in flow when urinating.
I started taking Tamsulosin which has helped immensely.
I have been recently reading about Pulsed magnetic therapy and various helth food which have been proposed to have beneficial effects. Yet these are never offered. Instead what seem to be on the hit list are Finesteride which in my opinion has enormous risks. Prostatectomy and TURP which also carry some degree of risk.
Why is it that options which are almost 100% safe are not offered as a first option?

Hi Desmond
With regards to surgery your GP or urologist can advise you based upon your current symptoms and blood test results etc.
From a practical perspective I would advise that you drink at least 1.5 litres of fluid a day to ensure bladder health. Alongside this i would advise that you sit to pass urine to aid complete bladder emptying, sitting to pass urine ensures the bladder and the pelvic floor muscles are fully relaxed. Give it a go!
