RIP takeaways

16 Jul 2013

Where did the love go? We used to rendezvous on a regular basis – too regular; you became addictive. My thoughts of you were distracting and you took over my life in ways that some people will never understand; they have never felt that much passion before. Our love affair is now over…RIP my charming Chinese, RIP my beloved Balti, and sleep well my tantalising Turkish kebab house!

Today marks the six month anniversary of my last takeaway meal…six months ago today I was tucking into a large chicken and beef Chinese curry, with mushroom fried rice, prawn crackers and a portion of chilli squid. Now, I couldn’t eat it…I had a very small amount, so much so that you couldn’t really see a difference between the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics that I took! That meal proved to me that my tastes had been gradually changing, even though my head was still telling me that I wanted this food. My stomach was upset, I had spent a fortune, and I felt like crap as I had given in to a stupid urge for junk.

There are some people – admittedly, I don’t know many – who absolutely hate the thought of eating food from a takeaway. The oil used, the fact that the meat might not be as fresh as it should be, the additives and colourings…blah, blah, blah. This sort of food was my life for a number of years. It became a comfort, a friend and an addiction. Whilst I don’t eat them now, I no doubt will indulge at some point in the future. It would be incredibly stupid of me to say that I will never eat one again. But the fact is that this food is no longer a big part of my life – it doesn’t control me as it once used to – and for that I am thankful! Although I do feel sorry for the proprietors of my old haunts…they seriously must wonder what has happened to me…maybe they think I died?!

Anyway – it was weigh in today and I was so bloody pleased when I was told that I had lost 5lbs and got this…

20130716-140239.jpg…my 14st award! My total loss now is 14st 4.5lbs…or 200.5lbs! I reached that 200 milestone and I wasn’t expecting to do it this week, so I was thrilled. I also managed to bag Slimmer of the Week and got one of the ‘Love Summer’ booklets. Someone on Twitter sent me a message saying that I am surely near my halfway point now, and it isn’t far off – well, for me it doesn’t seem far – I think I need to get to 16st 3lbs off and this pushes me just over that point. So a little way to go to that yet.

Everyone in group today seemed in good spirits, albeit a little worn down by this hot weather. Us Brits seem to cope well for a few days, turning our white bits a shade of lobster, but after that we start yearning for the dank days that we are known for! I don’t mind sunny – a nice 16c does me…as this means that the grass grows for my horses, but that it isn’t too hot to do anything with them…even a gentle groom has us sweating in this weather! Also, the cooler heat keeps the horrid biting insects away for a while. I was bitten by a fly a few days ago and my leg is so painful…

20130716-141013.jpg…a small fly bite and I reckon I could easily fit ten £1 coins over that bite, and this is post Piriton too. This is one of seven bites I have!

Anyway, back to class. I couldn’t stay for long as I had to get back for babysitting duty, although that was cancelled in the end! The first part of the session was all about fluid, and getting enough of it in this heat. Regular readers know that I am a die-hard plain water fan and drink litres of the stuff each day. If I didn’t like the taste of the water though, I would flavour it – and this was the point made in group. Just because you hear all of these scare stories about sweeteners, what is worse? Dehydration, water retention, difficulty going to the toilet…or drinking a small amount of something that the UK has tested to the nth degree and passed as okay for use?!

Also, caffeinated drinks – tea, coffee, green tea etc – act as diuretics and in this weather it makes it hard for us to drink enough of the stuff to stay hydrated. So it was just a nice recap about drinking enough fluid in general, but also making a point about staying hydrated in this weather. I know that my water consumption has gone from around 2ltrs to 4ltrs this past couple of weeks…I wonder if this has helped shift some of that 5lbs?

Pizza Lady struck again you will be pleased to hear! When discussing drinks, our consultant showed us a bottle of Schloer – at 18 syns – or a bottle of elderflower something or other from Asda…a non alcoholic wine, at only 4.5 syns per bottle. The point being that you can make better choices and still enjoy a ‘drink’. Pizza Lady piped up, “I just don’t understand the point of non-alcoholic drinks”…bless her heart. With the average bottle of wine coming in at roughly 27.5 syns…that is good enough incentive I think…add to that the dehydration, headaches and lower food inhibitions that come with drinking – I remember eating some awful food after a drink – there are a few more reasons to opt for a different choice. Like me, my consultant says that she would rather eat her syns than drink them…but each to their own, and that is the beauty of the Slimming World plan; you can chose!

Pizza Lady also made me chuckle when she asked how much I had lost this week. I told her, and she said, “Wow, I think I have put that on…I would love to lose that much!”. In the next breath I heard her talking about the alcohol and drinks from Starbucks that she has been having this week…non of which she synned. She is a definite one of a kind and I don’t think that group would be the same without her, so I hope she doesn’t think of going elsewhere!

As I couldn’t stay today, I am not aware of any further gems of wisdom. It was great to see my favourite couple losing 3lbs and 3.5lbs this week. They have just got a new puppy and I think running around after it has given them a Body Magic boost! Also, a new member got her half stone award this week, after two weeks on plan, and also bought a new member with her – so things are going well in group.

Other than group, it has been a quiet day. We got up early and I got ready for group and worked on my other half’s project for a while before heading out. He was off down to London for a meeting with a big agency – who manage celebs! – for something to do with his work…I am curious as to whether he might bump into anyone famous, yet don’t envy his underground escapades on a day like this. It has been quiet without him around today – working from home means that he’s always around, so I am just having in-depth conversations with the dog at the moment! It has given me time to complete another few modules of my nutrition diploma though…making progress. Tonight will just be another quiet one I think – no surprises there then!

Breakfast: Banana.

20130716-134337.jpgLunch: Quorn sausage (2 syns) and spinach, onion and tomato sandwiches (2 x HEB) with satsumas (which my dog shared with me!).

20130716-134450.jpgDinner: Cheesy veggie risotto (2 x HEA).

20130716-202059.jpgSnacks: Massive bag of pretzels (39 syns).

20130716-141533.jpgUp until my pretzels, the day was going well! Brekkie was something quick and light before weigh in, and lunch was my new version of the breakfast batches I used to demolish on weigh in days. Dinner was a simple pack of the Batchelor’s rice with loads of veggies added – celery, onion, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes – and and a tub of Low Low stirred in. The pretzels are a little – okay a lot! – higher in syns than I normally opt for…but I doubt that I will finish the bag, and according to the Slimming World rules, I can have a fair few extra syns as I am a lot fatter than most! However, I am not going to use this as an excuse; I have been a greedy snack monster tonight and will no doubt pay for the salt in them with a dry mouth all night long. Next week, I will stick to my French Fries!

Exercise: None – a blissful rest day today.

Thank you for reading, and thank you so much for your support – the messages today were overwhelming…it feels good knowing that so many of you are in my corner! ;-)

P.S. By the time you read this, I will have eaten all of the pretzels…they are disappearing fast!

WeightLossBitch

On a health and fitness driven journey to lose over 32st / 448lbs / 203kgs – yes, it is a considerable amount – I am committed to losing my excess weight without the aid of weight loss surgery, diet pills, or quick fixes…as there aren’t any! Changing my eating habits and building up my fitness levels, along with addressing the ‘head issues’ will be crucial in order for me to achieve my goal. Living in England as a 31 year old super morbidly obese woman can be challenging to say the least. I have been shouted at in the street and verbally abused far too many times to mention; hence the name ‘Weight Loss Bitch’…the day I am just called a ‘bitch’ instead of a ‘fat bitch’ will be the day that I know I have cracked my weight loss! With many reasons to lose this weight I am documenting my journey for a number of reasons. Firstly, I would like to keep a record of the ups and downs, the highs and lows, and the challenges I face with such an enormous task to tackle. Secondly, I would also like to inspire and encourage other people who are in a similar situation and to show them that significant amounts of weight can be lost naturally…with a bit of motivation, hard work, dedication and will power. Thirdly, all of the blogging, Facebook-ing, Tweet-ing, Pinterest-ing and YouTube-ing keeps me occupied and keeps my fingers out of the fridge!
