Rheumatoid and osteoarthritis
On behalf of Linda:
I have both chronic rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. This year the cold weather has started early. When the weather gets like this I start to feel so tired, to the point of exhaustion. But I don't get a good night's sleep. I have tried all the usual things, but nothing is working now. I really don't want to take more drugs, can you help please. I try to keep as active as I possibly can to keep everything moving, so it's not because I'm inactive.Thank you.

Fatigue is a common problem for people with arthritis. This can be for a number of reasons and the solution is likely multi-factorial. The charity Arthritis Action (http://www.arthritisaction.org.uk) provides a free factsheet on managing fatigue and you might want to start there.

Hi Linda
I am not sure what you have already tried but there is lots of good advice available on the internet about good sleep hygiene and while you may not see instant results, given time, small changes can make a big difference in helping you to get better quality sleep. Sometimes it's not always obvious to us what might be useful to try changing, so perhaps you could try keeping a diary or talking to someone you trust to see if there is anything else that might be contributing to your difficulty sleeping. Being over-tired can also make it more difficult to fall asleep so perhaps you need to change your sleeping habits when you start to feel more fatigued. Good luck.

Hi,
yes cold damp weather is not good for arthritic joints.
Stay warm, warm baths, and wear gloves outside.
Hope that helps
